milwaukee county sheriff david clarke ordered the park closed every night from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., following the fatal officer involved shooting of syville smith exactly three weeks ago. following that shooting, eight businesses were burned. others were looted and two people were hurt. dozens of arrests were made, triggering the closure of the park and a nightly curfew. milwaukee mayor tom barrett lifted that curfew last week. we are told by the county the park will resume normal hours. we will continue to keep you updated on this breaking news. we jim dear forecast and meteorologist sally severson -- we turn now to your forecast and meteorologist sally severson is in the weather center. sally: in for jeremy nelson this morning, and we are looking at temperatures easily into the upper 80's by tuesday. a weather pattern returns by tuesday and hangs around until friday. even statewide, pretty good.

the high-pressure influences are weather. we see a few extra clouds were today. it will feel a touch more humid. 79 this afternoon. brought some burgers -- brats and burgers on the role tonight. summary and sticky with highs in the low 80's tomorrow. thema: thank you, sally. new from overnight, one man is dead and two others are hurt after a car crash just west of downtown milwaukee. investigators say two of the men were thrown from their car when the driver lost control and hit night. the crash happened near 32nd and wisconsin. one man died at the scene and the two others are in the hospital right now with serious injuries. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. also new from overnight -- two people are in the hospital after being a motorcycle crash on milwaukee's north side. it happened around 12:30 this morning near 13th and fond du lac.

from their motorcycle after the driver lost control and hit a median. both victims are being treated for serious injuries. police tell wisn 12 news neither were wearing helmets. extra officers are on patrol this labor day weekend to make sure everyone gets to their destination safely. local departments and the state patrol have teamed up to create special owi task forces across the state. for suspected drunk drivers, people speeding, and not wearing their seatbelts. according to the department of transportation, 390 people have died on wisconsin roads in 2016. wisn 12 news time is 7:03. they couldn't do it during the game, but you can be sure, the wisconsin badgers were thrilled to do the lambeau leap yesterday following their win over lsu. the badgers upset the fifth ranked tigers, 16-14.

at lambeau field since 1983. wisconsin led at the half, but didn't score a touchdown until the third quarter. corey clement with a five yard touchdown run, just reaches across the goal line to put the badgers up 13-0. but later in the third quarter, the badgers turned the ball over twice, allowing the tigers to gain a one point lead. with under four minutes to play, badgers kicker raphael gaglianone hits a 47 yard field goal to put the badgers back on top, 16-14. in the final minutes, the badgers d'cota dixon with a pick to seal the victory in titletown. big 12 sports stephen watson was in the locker room as the team celebrated. stephen: much was made of no lambeau leaps. but when the clock struck zero, many badgers joined me in

neutral site between the badgers and lsu, but 48% of the wisconsin team was born in wisconsin. a special win. one they won't ever forget. at lambeau field, stephen watson, wisn 12 sports. thema: the badgers' next game is next saturday at camp randall stadium against akron. wisn 12 news time is 7:06. at the vatican, the pope reportedly kept saying mother teresa instead of saint teresa. he told the massive crowd it will be hard for admirers to make the switch, since mother teresa's saintliness is quote, "so close to us." at today's mass were a priest and about two dozen pilgrims from southeastern wisconsin. saint teresa worked for decades in india serving the poor and homeless, especially women and children. she died in 1997. after today's mass, the pope organized for a pizza lunch to be served inside the vatican

saint teresa's honor. the group she founded, sisters of charity, will hand out food to the poor in india. earlier this week, marquette university honored the now saint teresa with a mass near the statue of her on campus. the nobel prize winner visited the school 35 years ago and received the pere marquette discovery award -- the university's highest honor. you can see more photos of saint teresa's historic visit to marquette on our website, wisn.com. 12 news time is now 7:07. tomorrow is labor day, and to mark the holiday, labor groups from around the area will take part in milwaukee's labor day parade. the parade begins at zeidler union square and will wind through downtown to the summerfest grounds. that is where "labor-fest" is being held. the parade starts at 11:00 tomorrow morning. the free festival opens at noon. you are encouraged to bring new pairs of socks that will be

also in honor of labor day, repairers of the breach will serve a picnic lunch tomorrow for homeless families in milwaukee. the lunch at the shelter on 1335 west vliet st. runs from 11:30 to 1:30. anyone who would like to volunteer to serve the meal or donate should call the shelter. the number is on your screen, 414-342-9323. some other things to keep in mind on this holiday. tomorrow, there is no trash or recycling pick up or mail local libraries and public offices are closed. in milwaukee, overnight parking rules aren't in effect through tuesday. and you don't have to pay the parking meter monday. the brewers will go for the sweep later today in pittsburgh. the pirates hosting the crew for a three game series at pnc park. yesterday the brewers won, 7-4. the big highlight of the game, chris carter hitting a two run shot in the sixth inning.

ago. we will keep you updated on this breaking news throughout the morning. a health alert for expecting mothers -- having ultrasounds in the first trimester may increase the severity of autism in children. a new study from the university of washington looked at children already diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. the researchers found children with certain types of the condition can have lower non-verbal i.q.'s and increased repetitive behaviors if they're exposed to ultrasounds in the first trimester. variability of symptoms, but not what causes the condition. the food and drug administration recommends only using ultrasounds for medical purposes. some promising research in the fight against zika. scientists have discovered that three existing drugs could be useful in counteracting the effects of the virus. so far, experiments have only been conducted in petri dishes -- but the results were dramatic, even reversing some of the damage previously thought

the drugs are currently used to treat cancer, hepatitis-c and parasitic infections. it's still not clear if the drug combination can penetrate a woman's body to treat the brain of her unborn baby impacted by zika. thanks to a new approach, people suffering from sleep apnea may be able to breathe easier. with more, here's abc news senior medical contributor doctor timothy johnson. dr. johnson: sleepwh uninterrupted sessions every night, millions of americans suffer from sleep apnea -- interrupted breathing during sleep. among these sufferers, some experience what is known as central sleep apnea, in which the brain doesn't send the signal to the body telling it to breathe. those who experience this form of the condition may wake up every few minutes, gasping for air. and it's not just interrupted sleep.

high pressure also in place over much of the lower michigan. part of the reason our weather has been so stable is because of tropical storm hermine. the low itself is actually out over the atlantic ocean. it is still going to be a weather maker in that is going to bring rain and gusty wind. the lowest still strong enough that it provides sort of a blocking mechanism that helps to keep that area of high pressure is influencing our weather from moving too much. clouds from time to time. temperatures reaching upper 70's, wind is still out of the southeast. tonight at 6:00, if you are getting the grill out or spending time with family or friends, getting some gardening done, it will be a great afternoon for that. for tonight, we watch an overnight thunderstorm complex try to get more organized. this is tomorrow morning at 7:00. our model does grab a little bit of moisture associated with this. it pretty much washes out before

thema: welcome back. we're looking at some of the stories trending online this morning. the juno mission to jupiter is sending back incredible images of our solar system's largest planet. here's a view of jupiter's southern lights that was just tweeted out by nasa. look at those colors. the image is a mosaic of three images taken just minutes apart from each other using the juno spacecraft's infrared camera. these pictures were taken during a fly by at the end of august. it's a close-up view of jupiter's north pole. and another perspective. these images were contrast enhanced to show the areas of light and dark on the planet. nasa says it will continue to tweet out images from jupiter during juno's 20 month mission. that is pretty amazing. someday soon, you may be able to find dory, in your very own

exactly three weeks after unrest forced the park to close four hours early every night. this is video from less than an hour ago of crews taking down that fence. county executive chris abele was at the park this morning. he told our wisn 12 news crew the park will resume normal operating hours starting today. that means staying open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. you see crews putting the fencingnt it away. again, the fencing went up three weeks ago after the area around sherman park erupted in violence following the death of syville smith on august 13. eight businesses were burned. others were looted and two people were hurt. milwaukee county sheriff david clarke ordered the park to close at 6:00 p.m. and orange fencing to stay up around sherman park. neighbors have been meeting since then to resume normal park

this morning, mother teresa is now a saint. pope francis made the declaration during a canonization mass this morning at the vatican. thousands of catholic pilgrims from around the world applauded during the pope's mass at saint peter's square. many view saint teresa as a model of compassion because she devoted her life to helping the poor in india. saint teresa was awarded the nobel peace prize in 1979. she died in 1997 at the age of 87. a group of catholics from blessed teresa of calcutta church in north lake were at the vatican for saint teresa's canonization ceremony. the parish priest and about two dozens pilgrims left on tuesday for rome. earlier this week, marquette university honored the now saint teresa with a mass. she received the university's highest honor when she visited in 1981. more than 10,000 people came to

murdered nuns, including one from our area. mississippi university for women have announced the sister margaret held and sister paula merrill graduate nursing scholarship. both nuns were found dead in their mississippi home last month. they worked as nurse practitioners in that community for many years. sister margaret was from slinger. she was laid to rest friday. wisn 12 news time is 7:33. it's a game badger fans will be talking about for a long time. would pull of an upset over fifth ranked lsu yesterday at lambeau field, but they did. wisconsin didn't score a touchdown until the third quarter. the final score was 16-14. this was the first college game at lambeau field since 1983. the game was sold out. but no matter where fans watched the game, they tell us it was the season opener they were

is out over the atlantic. this is a look at the tropical storm watches and warnings extended up into the boston area. nantucket likely going to be looking at moisture from the system. it makes a backtrack closer to the coast. it will provide high seas, rain, and wind. and remain nearly stationary. this going to be moving very slowly today through about tuesday. that's part of the reason are on weather is so quiet. thema: you think you may tur sally: there's a chance to get stronger before we can see you in. but eventually get over the colder water in the north atlantic and begin to diminish. thema: thank you, sally. as we've been seeing all weekend, tropical storm hermine is bringing flooding, storm surges and high winds. this is ocean city maryland, where labor day weekend travelers are being told to stay off the beach due to dangerous conditions. and now, places as far north as massachusetts and connecticut are getting ready for the storm,

a hurricane before the holiday weekend is over. this is what it looked like in the carolinas and virginia yesterday. 60 mile per hour winds ripped off the sides of homes, leaving dozens injured. florida is still recovering from the damage this morning. the storm knocked down trees, including a 76-year-old who says he's lucky to be alive after one fell on his home. >> i couldn't get out. it was so windy. i mean, i couldn't get out on my deck. it wus my backyard. everything went up in the air and around. thema: when it landed in florida as a hurricane friday, a 76-year-old veteran managed to escape after a tree crashed into his home. it's been heading north through the carolinas and virginia. it's now off the coast of maryland. warnings are in place as far north as connecticut. homeowners and tourists are seeing flooding, storm surges,

been declared for parts of new jersey as the coast braces for the impact. we're learning new information this morning about the cost of last month's massive flooding in louisiana. that state's governor says the price tag is now more than $8.7 billion. and that number is expected to climb, as louisiana adds up the cost of repairing damaged roads and public buildings. red cross volunteers from wisconsin and three emergency vehicles are already in louisiana, helping flood victims recover. some of the volunteers are working 14 hour shifts. they team up and visit shelters, providing food, water, cleaning supplies and resources for mental health. happening now -- president obama is in china for his tenth and final g-20 summit with world leaders. but the summit got off to a tense start, when chinese and u.s. officials reportedly shared some heated words on the tarmac minutes after air force one

during the summit, the president is hoping to make headway on efforts with russia to resolve the violence in syria. yesterday, the u.s. and china formally agreed to a climate change pact. in your commitment 2016 coverage now -- republican nominee donald trump is trying to gain support among african-americans voters. yesterday, he spoke to a predominantly african-american church congregation in detroit. trump told them he would work to bring economic improvement and fight against discrimination. trump also toured the city with former p ben carson. some protests were held outside the church. trump's running mate, mike pence, says he will release his tax returns next week. trump is refusing to release his until an audit is completed. democratic presidential nominee hillary clinton released her tax returns last month. libertarian presidential candidate gary johnson is making a play in wisconsin. he's mike gousha's guest this morning on "upfront."

the epicenter was in pawnee, about 90 minutes outside oklahoma city. right now, there is visible damage to several buildings in pawnee county. the quake registered at a magnitude of 5.6. that ties for the strongest in the states' recorded history. now the state is ordering a shutdown of nearly 40 wells used for drilling. experts say fracking makes the region more susceptible to earthquakes. the quake was also felt as far away as iowa, missouri, and right now, two americans are missing in the mountains of pakistan. and overnight, their families called off the search. kyle dempster and scott anderson are two well known climbers from utah. they were last seen august 22. a rescue effort was launched last sunday. their families made the decision to call off the search based on how much time had passed and the weather. this morning, more answers in a nearly 27-year-old cold case.

hospital right now with serious injuries. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. also new from overnight -- two people are in the hospital after being a motorcycle crash on milwaukee's north side. it happened around 12:30 this morning near 13th and fond du lac. officials say a male driver and a female passenger were thrown from their motorcycle after the driver lost control and hit median. both victims are being treated for serious injuries. were wearing helmets. extra officers are on patrol this labor day weekend to make sure everyone gets to their destination safely. local departments and the state patrol have teamed up to create special owi task forces across the state. officers will be on the lookout for suspected drunk drivers, people speeding, and not wearing their seatbelts. according to the department of transportation, 390 people have

wisn 12 news time is 8:03. they couldn't do it during the game, but you can be sure, the wisconsin badgers were thrilled to do the lambeau leap yesterday following their win over lsu. the badgers upset the fifth ranked tigers, 16-14. this was the first college game at lambeau field since 1983. wisconsin led at the half, but didn't score a touchdown until the third quarter. corey clement with a five yard touchdown run, just reaches across the goal line to put the badgers up 13-0. but later in the third quarter, the badgers turned the ball over twice, allowing the tigers to gain a one point lead. with under four minutes to play, badgers kicker raphael gaglianone hits a 47 yard field goal to put the badgers back on top, 16-14. in the final minutes, the badgers d'cota dixon with a pick to seal the victory in titletown.

d.r. johnson: sleep -- while many of us enjoy it in restful, uninterrupted sessions every night, millions of americans suffer from sleep apnea -- interrupted breathing during sleep. among these sufferers, some experience what is known as central sleep apnea, in which the brain doesn't send the signal to the body telling it to breathe. those who experience this form of the condition may wake up every few minutes, gasping for air. and it's not just interrupted sleep. central sleep apnea can also pressure, even heart failure. the standard treatment is a continuous positive airway pressure, or cpap, mask. but many people find this mask too uncomfortable to wear night after night. now an international team of researchers is testing a new approach. a tiny pacemaker-like device, implanted under the skin of the chest. it sends a signal to the muscles responsible for breathing. and in a new study, 51% of patients saw their number of sleep apnea events per hour

thema: welcome back. we're looking at some of the stories trending online this morning. the juno mission to jupiter is sending back incredible images of our solar system's largest planet. here's a view of jupiter's southern lights that was just tweeted out by nasa. the image is a mosaic of three images taken just minutes apar'e stories trending online this from each other using the juno spacecraft's infrared camera. these pictures were taken during a fly by at the end of august. it's a close-up view of jupiter's north pole. and another perspective. these images were contrast enhanced to show the areas of light and dark on the planet.

of emergency after getting hit with a large earthquake yesterday morning. the epicenter was in pawnee, about 90 minutes outside oklahoma city. right now, there is visible damage to several buildings in pawnee county. the quake registered at a magnitude of 5.6. that ties for the strongest in the states' recorded history. now the state is ordering a shutdown of nearly 40 wells used for drilling. experts say fracking makes the region more susceptible to earthquakes. the quake was also felt as far away as iowa, missouri, and texas. right now, two americans are missing in the mountains of pakistan. and overnight, their families called off the search. kyle dempster and scott anderson are two well known climbers from utah. they were last seen august 22. a rescue effort was launched last sunday. their families made the decision to call off the search based on how much time had passed and the weather. this morning, more answers in a

remains are from a boy kidnapped in october 1989. jacob wetterling was 11-years-old when a masked gunman grabbed him from a road near his home. no one is charged. but police say a person of interest gave them information on where wetterling's remains could be found. that man is already awaiting trial on federal child pornography charges. it's been a week since the murder of dwyane wade's cousin nykea aldridge. now, her family is saying their goodbyes. a funeral was held yesterday for the young mother of four. the 32-year-old was pushing a stroller when she was shot and killed by stray gunfire. last month chicago saw the most murders in 20 years. nykea's family says they hope her death won't be in vain. juan teague: is a mother, she is a cousin, she is a sister, she is a daughter, and yes, she is

beer industry run deep. the beer business has even produced some of the most iconic images of early american pop culture. here to talk about a new exhibit featuring some of wisconsin brewery's art and advertising is erika petterson, the art on tap curator at the museum of wisconsin art. good morning. thanks for joining us. tell us all about this exhibit. >> we have it up at the museum of wisconsin are in west bend. will be up through the end of september. and it shows some of the great pre-prohibition prints and advertising pieces from all of the big brewing companies, along with some of the smaller bring companies as well. thema: as related video of people from the museum, these really are some iconic images that people all around the world associate with beer and now with milwaukee. >> right.

thema: welcome back. a sure sign summer is winding down -- you and your family can enjoy one last dip in the pool at three milwaukee county water parks. cool waters in greenfield park, schulz aquatic center in lincoln park, and tosa pool in hoyt park are still open, but not for long. all three close for the season tomorrow. after the pools are closed for human swimming tomorrow, there's a chance for fun for some four-legged residents. tomorrow is the 12th annual doggy dip at cool waters. the event runs from 4:30 until 6:00. admission is $5 per dog. all kinds of fun out there. it will be nice to get a break from the upcoming humidity.
